Well, their offered solution is not too bad actually... you just have some section in your view which becomes the ''dialog box''. The section can be prettied up any way you want. Then have a field in there that can be set with the message text. When you want to show the message, you set some value somewhere telling the ''dialog box'' to show (i.e. ...

Seems like you should just need to map the check box value to the SP default value.
(If I recall correctly:) One issue I've seen before is that if you are using a boolean in SP, it doesn't use 1 and 0, it uses -1 and 0. This might be a source of trouble.

This is from the Microsoft InfoPath 2003 help:
quote:To access an XDocument object contained in the XDocuments collection, you can pass the positional index or the location path to the Item method:

Can you do it with a rule instead?

By group I assume you are referring to a physical group in the DOM, and not just a conceptual group.
Are you asking whether there is a way to have one and only one box checked in the group? Or are you asking whether there is a way to know if at least one box is checked in the group? Or am I not understanding yet?

Was the field visible, and not read-only before the afterUpdate event?

There is an XDocuments collection. It gives you access to the DOM for every open form, allowing you to copy the required value.
