Reply Contact Mike,Since this is probably getting off-topic we should establish another thread. But briefly (if you are writing your solution in managed code), I would highly recommend reading an excerpt from Patrick Halstead, Mandava-Teredesai and Matthew Blain's book, "Developing Solutions with Microsoft InfoPath". There are two chapters that go into advanced topics that'll clear up and save you a lot of time. You can find the link over at my blog (I've supplied the links below):http://waynester.net/blog/archive/2006/03/11/1435.aspxhttp://waynester.net/blog/archive/2006/03/11/1434.aspx 03-14-2006 11:39 AM In reply to mwaldron Joined on 03-14-2006 USA Posts 1 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Hi,I'm new to InfoPath and have a question that is along the lines of this topic. I understand how to add single-line text fields to a SharePoint list from InfoPath, but I can't get this to work for dates. Whenever I add a date field (in SharePoint) to the InfoPath form, the form stops working. It looks like it works, but when I check the list, the data has not been added. How can I do this? Thanks.Melissa 03-15-2006 11:30 PM In reply to Patrick Halstead Joined on 08-07-2006 Posts 5,112 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Hi Waynester,Thanks for the link! Hi Melissa,Dates are special because the SQL type (SharePoint) is different from the XML type (XSD, or InfoPath). You'll have to conver the XSD ones into a string that matches the SQL ones and try promoting that. May or may not work. I'm not sure if chapter 9 [edit: in Patrick Halsteads book "Developing solutions with InfoPath. AndersR]addresses this but it is a pain. One of the advantages of products like our Database Accelerator is that it roundtrips the XML data types without forcing a conversion to SQL and back. Reply Contact Hello!I am getting the same error mentioned at the beginning of this thread; i.e., The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server:Exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException was thrown.<detail> <errorstring xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/"> List does not exist The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. What else could be wrong? Thanks so much for your help. That tutorial on submitting to a Sharepoint list was not for the faint of heart! 03-17-2006 12:46 PM In reply to CycleFitness Joined on 03-17-2006 USA Posts 80 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact In addition to the previous message (clarification here -- I'm new to InfoPath) I'm trying to create a status report that has a "Major Efforts" section that should work like this:The Major Efforts section should automatically populate with all the records from an Events Sharepoint List, filtered by the user's name entered in a another drop-down list. The user should be able to enter a new Major Effort and have it re-populate back to the Events Sharepoint list. Is the "Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath" the correct solution? I'm not sure where the CAML template comes into my equation.Sorry for the idiocy. This one is a bit confusing. Thanks! 03-17-2006 06:24 PM In reply to Matt Faus Joined on 08-18-2006 Dallas, Texas Posts 1,558 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact I definitely agree with you that this stuff can be confusing, it took me a while to figure it out, too! This error is almost always a problem with the GUID. It looks like your list GUID is correct, but you need to check your column GUIDs. I posted directions to do this on 18 February 2006 : 10:15:32 AM , so check out that post and let me know if you have any questions. The CAML is what you have to modify with your own custom GUIDs.Also, since so many people have problems with this, I will try to get some screenshots and post them.Other than that, it sounds like this tutorial would accomplish what you are trying to do. Reply Contact Ok, I took some screenshots on getting the GUID for each column name and creating your CAML template, I hope they help: Matt Faus / Microsoft InfoPath MVPQdabra® Software / Streamline data gathering to turn process into knowledge 03-26-2006 03:30 PM In reply to Neal Joined on 03-26-2006 USA Posts 3 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Matt,I am getting the same messages using the caml copied from your tutorial. I tried it with my own list first with no luck and figured I was missing something, so I just duplicated the tutorial-- with the same lack of results. Any heop would be appreciated. Thanks,Neal 03-28-2006 12:15 AM In reply to Matt Faus Joined on 08-18-2006 Dallas, Texas Posts 1,558 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Hi Neal and welcome to the forum!I don't know what else to tell you, except to check and double-check the CAML template. That template is the key to unlocking the SharePoint web service. If you are still having trouble it might be helpful to post what you are using as CAML template now and also information on the schemas of all your data sources.Good luck! Reply Contact I was getting the same error message still even after checking my CAML file and ensuring that it was correct. I finally solved the problem by changing my URL in the submit data connection to match my site. I initially used the straighthttp://servername/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDLI then realized I was trying to reference a list that was on another site and switched the URL to match the location of the site where the list was located:http://servername/c3/sandbox/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDLIt worked like a charm after that change. Thanks for a great resource. 04-03-2006 10:22 AM In reply to Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Where/how do I add the column GUID to the CAML template? Could someone show me a sample? Thanks, 04-03-2006 10:28 AM In reply to Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Gee, it took posting a question for me to realize there was a second page to this. My problem was the same as one above--I had set the submit connection to a higher level, where the site with my list was on a WSS site several layers down. Works perfectly now--love it, thanks! Didn't need Column GUIDs at all.... 04-04-2006 01:16 AM In reply to gaurs Joined on 04-04-2006 India Posts 12 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact This thread was very helpful in getting the infopath form to submit the data to list. However I have reached the stage where submit goes through and I get a success message but data is not appearing in the sharepoint list. List column names do not have any space and the GUIDs are same as the column name. Any pointers on this would be highly appreciated. Here is my CAML.<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Batch OnError="Continue"> <Method ID="1" Cmd="New"> <Field Name="Title"></Field> <Field Name="Priority"></Field> <Field Name="Status"></Field> <Field Name="AssignedTo"></Field> <Field Name="HrsPlanned"></Field> <Field Name="LifeCycleStage"></Field> <Field Name="RequestId"></Field> </Method></Batch>Alos, another related question is that on my infopath form, for these same fields right now only textboxes appear. I want to change the control types. How do I do it using CAML? 04-04-2006 11:08 AM In reply to Matt Faus Joined on 08-18-2006 Dallas, Texas Posts 1,558 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact Did it ever work before? You might be hitting the '100 items displayed in the default view' error. For this I think you just have to change how many items are displayed in the General Settings of the list. Please see this HowTo:http://www.infopathdev.com/howto/bugs/default.aspx?i=db5faca583c64e5aa50310dea59c37de Matt Faus / Microsoft InfoPath MVPQdabra® Software / Streamline data gathering to turn process into knowledge 04-04-2006 08:46 PM In reply to gaurs Joined on 04-04-2006 India Posts 12 Re: Add Sharepoint List Items with InfoPath Mark as Not AnswerMark as Answer... Reply Contact No it never worked before because I kept getting folloiwn error "List does not exist". But once I updated the Web service URL to point to the sub site web service, that error stopped and I got the success message. However I cant see the item in the sharepoint list. And I dont think the default 100 items is the problem as my list is new and I dont have anything in there.Other related issue to your article is : Is it possible to change the control types in the repeater that gets generated from CAML template. I want to change some textboxes to drop down list etc. Ot is it possible to define 5 column repeater and have a datagrid kind of view and submit more that one list entry at a time.
