Hello,

 

I followed two major blog (all credit to the authors) to build my browser based form  for auto check out

Here is my sample forms looks like -

 

 

 

When I press Checkout button hereI don't get any error message so I think it was able to connect to webservice fine but it does not check out the document.

Any suggestions will be helpful on how to debug or what could be wrong.

If you set last modified and it doesn't match the last modified for the file on the server your check out will fail. Your screenshots of your sample form aren't showing. But I would put a button that simply executes the query on the form, as well as the query fields, and the data fields as well so I can see the result - then I would test by manually setting the query fields, executing the query, and checking the result.

Thank you. I have changed my form as you said. I click on button seems web service rund fast as I added dummy rule after that. But check out is not happening. What else can I try? I made sure  that check out is present here.

 

 

What is the rule on your button? Just queries the web service? Any chance I can see your form? You can attach it under the options tab in a reply.

What happens if you try in preview? I just added a data connection to the lists service on one of my servers, drug the fields onto my form, previewed, executed the data connection - and the file checked out. From your screenshots, it appears you are using the web service correctly. Maybe try in preview and run Fiddler and see if you can get more info that way?

When I run in filler mode I get this message. It seems to connect to web service but still don't checkout. When I run it in filler mode though I have this doubt as it is a new entry to the list and not submitted still checkout to field will not be present right. Then web service won't be successful. I see successful execution for web service but chekoutresult check box is not set.

I'm sorry. I don't understand what you are saying. I'm just suggesting you preview the form, enter the URL for an existing file in one of your SharePoint libraries, and see if the web service successfully checks the file out.

 I tried as you as you suggested but once I click on the button nothing happens.

I'm out of suggestions, I'm afraid - the web service works as anticipated for me using my SharePoint server. I guess I checked against 2010 instead of 2013, not sure which you are using. You may want to try running Fiddler while testing in preview to verify the web service is called and see if you can get more information in the response.

 I have it this way. I have a new site for my project. In that site I have this new document library form published. and I have data connections at the same place as well.

2. Is there any coding needs to be done in visual studio for building checkout web service?  I don't have anything done in visual studio.

I did not use UDCX, if that is the question. For the lists data connection I used http://server/sites/mysubsite/_vti_bin/lists.asmx - Edited to add, no, there is no code needed - this is just a simple web service query. I don't understand why it doesn't seem to work for you. I'd encourage you to try it in preview while running Fiddler as mentioned a few times above.

 Thank you for all the valuable suggestions. I have changed my web service to not UDCX as well and run it in preview mode but still no checkout result.

I've attached it - it is just your form with a new connection added to one of my servers.
