What this means is an xpath in your form which stores the user alias of the person who will be granted access, for example:

my:myFields/my:manager

This field would store the manager alias and DBXL would be giving permissions to that user according to the document level permissions you set.

Re: Granting permission on SharePoint library that was created by DBXL

Thank you - OK, that helps. I put DBXLUsers with read and write in Web.config, then in DAT permissions, I added Everyone (NT AUTHORITY\AUTHENTICATED USERS) to Document Type Level Permissions and left Document Level Permissions empty. The user can submit a form now. I'm not sure that combination is what did the trick because I also gave the user permission at the site level in addition to the library level. I'll have to play around with it a bit.

Question: If I were to assign permissions to a specific document type, what would I put in the "Membership XPath" field?

Re: Granting permission on SharePoint library that was created by DBXL

If you want to grant permissions to the DBXLUsers group to ALL document types, you would add the group to web.config.

If you want to grant permissions only to a specific document type, then use the Permissions tab to add document type level permissions.

Re: Granting permission on SharePoint library that was created by DBXL

For now, I just want the users who I designate, to see the SharePoint library and grant them contribute (ability to add, modify, delete) an item in the library.

So far, I added a group called DBXLUsers on machine where DBXL is installed and added 3 AD members to the group, then added the group to web.config. Do I then need to add DBXLUsers group to DAT, Permissions tab? Is there a exampl of what the Membership XPath should be?

Re: Granting permission on SharePoint library that was created by DBXL

Hi Doreen,

DBXL has various permission levels: global (controlled via web.config), doctype level permissions and document level permissions. Here is a tutorial with more details. Depending on what you want to achieve you could end up using one or all of these levels.

You could still control ShP form library permissions or item permissions if you'd like. Of course you can imagine that this would involve having two different permissions: one in DBXL and one in SharePoint.

If you want DBXL permissions to be enforced, another option is to create a data view (to open forms directly from DBXL) instead of using a SharePoint Mapping. Here's an example.

Hope this helps!

Granting permission on SharePoint library that was created by DBXL

I have a SharePoint 2007 library created from DBXL tool. I am ready to allow other users to test the form in the library so I gave them contribute permission on the the SharePoint library directly but apparently this is not allowed. I can understand since the template is retreived from the web service.

How can I control who can see the library and submit to the library?

Also, I generally create a workflow in SharePoint Designer to control granular levels of permission to an item in a library. Can I still do this?
