Yes, the SQL server is on a separate instance on our network. It's not on the same farm or any of the servers on the farm. I had no problem initially setting it up to communicate with the DB, but when trying to use existing tables in a new instance of DBXL, I'm gettng some sort of permission error on the SQL side. I just haven't really dug into it just yet, other things have commanded my time.

I'll get back with you again if I continue to be stuck.

Re: Move DBXL to another server on SharePoint 2010 farm

Hi Tom,

DBXL executes off of the QdabraDBXL and QdabraUtility databases, so where those are located will matter in this case.

For example, let's say you have DBXL on http://server1/qdabrawebservice and the databases are on a SQL instance on server2.

You can install DBXL on http://server3/ and in the final screen of the installation, select "use existing databases". This will install DBXL using all your previously existing data.

Then you can safely uninstall DBXL from the original server1.

However, if the SQL instance is in server1 itself, the procedure might be a little different.

Can you describe your set up? If it's a farm, perhaps SQL is on its own server (e.g. server2) and the steps above help answer the question.

Thanks.

Move DBXL to another server on SharePoint 2010 farm

Hi. I've been evaluating DBXL since returning from the Master class and have found that the instance is installed on a server node different from how SP2010 is called. How can I move the installation to the correct node?

For instance, DBXL is called from http://sharepointserver1:222, and the installed site is called from https://sharepointserver/eForms. The actual installation is a 4 server farm, the main administrative node is installed on \\sharepointnode12 (names have been changed to protect the innocent). DBXL is installed on our network on \\sharepointnode4.

Is there a good solution to move the instance? Thanks in advance.
