This document provides more information than I've seen from other vendors of web services.

In my experience, while it is easy to say the product follows the standard SOAP protocol the fact is even the concept of web services is poorly understood by many and the devil is always in the details. E.g. the DBXL document is restricted to a set of users, what user does the calling application run as and how does it authenticate? Suddenly all the generic examples of web services converting currencies are insufficient.

No need to reply futher to this thread. Thanks.

Re: Third Party Use of DBXL Web Service

The DBXL web service uses standard SOAP protocol. It can be called from any application that supports calling SOAP based services.

It appears that SAS can call web services, but we do not have any documents specific to calling from other applications.

Re: Third Party Use of DBXL Web Service

We have explored this option, via a ASP.NET web page, but I don't believe we've taken the option further than that.

Here's the example, let us know if it helps:

http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/other_subjects/entry74140.aspx

Third Party Use of DBXL Web Service

I will have to provide the capability for third
party systems (e.g. not InfoPath or SharePoint) to submit data to the DBXL web
service. A specific scenario is having our SAS business analytics system submit
information (forms) to DBXL. While the DBXL web service documentation (QdabraWebService/dbxldocumentservice.asmx)
is relatively self-explanatory, our development staff has little to no
experience implementing a service oriented architecture.

Do you have any references, white papers, and advice on third party systems and
applications using the DBXL web service? E.g. lessons learned, best practices.
