Open a command window on the server and ping the host name, does it resolve to one of the local IP addresses?

If it doesn't, you can edit your local hosts (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) file to add it. After installation, you should be able to remove the entry.

You will want to use the actual IP and not the loopback address (127.0.0.1), as there are security settings in Windows which will block the loopback in the hosts file unless the registry is configured to disable the loopback check.

That is what I am currently entering in the Host name text box, just the domain, not including 'https'.

In the hostname textbox, only enter 'domain', do not include the https.

Patrick,

The certificate is configured to use https. The binding in IIS is set but the option is not available under the DBXL installation drop down menu, if I try to enter it manually in the host heading text box I get the 'Hostname must resolve to a local address' warning.

Timezone is CST, anytime tomorrow morning would work for a call, I PM'd you a good number to reach me on.

Hi Johnnie M.

If the SharePoint server you are installing to has port 443 configured DBXL will try to use that. Are you saying your certificate is configured to use http and not https? We may need to do a live meeting with you to investigate. What timezone are you in and what's best time for one of our engineers to call you?

Installation question

I am trying to install a test instance of DBXL 2.4 on the following configuration:

1 web front end box, 1 database box
Windows Server 2008 R2
SQL Server 2008
SharePoint 2010
1 SharePoint site collection configured as an extranet site using SSL

When I get to the site selection screen during the DBXL install the only option available to me is 'https://<Machine Name>:443', my SSL certificate for this site is 'http://<Domain>', if I try and change the host header to 'http://<Domain>' I get a warning that the 'Hostname must resolve to a local address'.

If I go ahead and install using the provided URL of 'https://<Machine Name>:443' the install fails as the SharePoint install is not picked up and the SSL certificate is incorrect, I can provide the errors from the event viewer if need be.

Is there any way around this?
