It usually happens for one of two reasons:

MOSS 2007 and WSS v3.0 use a local machine group called WSS_WPG. You will need to make sure that the Network Service account (or whatever account the DBXL App pool is using) is in the WSS_WPG group.

There is a Sharepoint - 80 site set up, but you have selected a different site for the installation. Make sure to select the Sharepoint - 80 site. Sometimes machines retain a "Default Web Site", but this is misleading; do not select it during installation.

Let us know if this helps. Thanks!

WSSP v2.3 installation failure

To whom it may concern:

I downloaded the trial version of WSSP v2.3 and install it on a computer with windows 2003, sharepoint 3.0, SQL2005 express follow the instruction, but the installation failed and I got such error prompt: The installation failed, and the rollback has been performed-->Error initializing DBXL database,-->Client found response content type'text/html, charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml', The request failed with the error message -- <html> <head> <titil> configuration......

I have no idea what reason caused this problem, on Query DB tag I left default database blank, I'm not sure the failure caused by this setting, and which database should I input? is "Qdabra DBXL" OK? How can I install WSSP sucessfully?
