I am currently working to move IPFS 2007 broswer based forms to SharePoint 2010 with the least steps possible. Some of the forms have workflows on the lists the forms are hosted on. One of my fields in a form is entitled Priority, When publishing most of my forms I used "None create a new field in this Form Library" on the property promotion page in the publishing wizard in IP2007. In order to identify the correct field in the workflow activity event I use: string guid3 = workflowProperties.Item.Fields["Priority"].Id.ToString();
string pri = workflowProperties.Item.Properties[guid3].ToString();

When stepping through the code I noticed the GUID was being returned for the item field ID, but then null refferenced on the next line. I started looking at the content type and when drilling down I noticed that the Priority field belonged to SharePoint and was called "RoutingPriority". Unfortunately changing the workflow call to "RoutingPriority" caused the exception that the Field Did not exist on the first line. So if I am correct and please I would love to know exactly whats happening here; the GUID returned from the first line above is in fact for the "RoutingPriority" field which is not obtainable as it is not a GUID that is present in the workflowProperties.Item.Properties collection causing the NULL reference.

So workaround is to obviously change the field property promotion name in the publishing wizard to one that doesn't seem to be reserved for SharePoint 2010, kind of sucks a bit for reporting and end users though. One to watch out for anyway guys.

Appendum: Date comes out as "V4HolidayDate" another one to be aware of.
