Contact Selector and Workflow

I have an InfoPath form that uses Contact Selector. The Contact Selector works and I'm able to store the domain/user to sharepoint as text. I want to use the domain/user information to assign a workflow task. I only need to assign to one user. I'm using SharePoint Designer, but I have not been successful in getting the workflow to assign the task. The workflow starts, but the assigned to is blank. If I enter the domain/user information directly into the workflow it works, but I need the user to select. I'm not sure how to use the information from the text field where I have the domain/user stored to assign the task.
