As explained in a similar post in the database integration forum the problem you have is that the old forms have a "map" for want of a better word of all their fields, data and field lengths, if subsequent design changes the field lengths it is expecting then it will fail saying it cannot locate the row. The simplest and best way to use old forms is to design a query on the new form that pulls back the data from the database into the new form with its new sizes, smaller or larger.

The reason I know this was that I have been through exactly the same pain myself. Any questions feel free to come back to me otherwise I hope this helps.

Adam

PS I am sure one of the other guys could explain this better than me technically if you need more clairification of the behaviour

Re: Row cannot be located for updating

quote:

Hi Deborah,

Whenever you want to change the length of the field, if increasing the length of the field size then no problem but you are decreasing the size it will shows the warning message. If you want to decrease the length of the field you need to change the existing data also minimum otherwise it will accept the data up to 300. You need to change in data base also all the above field data is 300 only.

I am increasing the size of the field but I am getting the above error

Re: Row cannot be located for updating

Hi Deborah,

Whenever you want to change the length of the field, if increasing the length of the field size then no problem but you are decreasing the size it will shows the warning message. I changed the length of a field on a Sql Server 2000 database. Now old forms cannot submit to the database. I am submitting to the database using a rule and the submit wizard.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The following is the error obtained:
[0x80040E38][Microsoft Cursor Engine]Row cannot be located for updating. Some values may have been changed since it was last read.

In attempting to change the field width from 1000 back to 300, I get a warning that some of the data may be lost....really do not want to lose data.
