I'll try to detail it out a little more... I didn't want to overwhelm/confuse anybody.

- The workflow is writing to the same list, and the open same list item.
- There are no promoted properties because I'm using InfoPath to customize a List, not a Form Library

The concept I'm testing is actually to try to the following:
- The customer attaches a file
- The workflow copies the attached file from the open list item to a library
- The workflow deletes the file from the list item
- The customer refreshes the data in the list item (which shows a table of the remote library)
- The customer is then free to upload more files

Complicated and possibly unnecessary and possibly impossible? :) I'm all about simple, but part of this is me finding an acceptable middle ground with my team lead.

I've only just recently found a topic on CAML use in InfoPath to submit to multiple locations, it may be the way for me to go. I found it here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/infopath/archive/2007/03/26/submitting-to-a-sharepoint-list.aspx) but will search this forum for it as well.

Thank you for the feedback!

Re: Submitting Data without Closing Form while triggering a workflow

Hi, Derek - I'm glad the forum has been helpful to you.

:)

So - the workflow is writing data to a column... that is in a different list? It isn't updating any promoted properties for the form itself? Now that I think about it, I think the forms I've worked on that have workflow on the library all do close on submit....

I'm just wondering if there may be a way around using workflow? Are you only updating the value of a single list item? There is an epic post on the forum somewhere about leveraging CAML from InfoPath to do just that... maybe there is a way to not use workflow here.

Submitting Data without Closing Form while triggering a workflow

Hello! I love this forum and lurk here for answers all the time.

I've been experiencing a problem and believe I've boiled it down to the components.

Scenario:

InfoPath and SharePoint 2010

Custom List

Workflow that writes a value to the list item when it is modified

Goals:

Submit the data without closing the form

Refresh the data after the workflow completes

Make more changes and submit them without closing the form.

Problem/Question: Submitting the data the second time results in a "The form cannot be submitted because of an error." and "Save Conflict." - makes sense considering the workflow wrote data to a column. Is there a way to get around this without closing the form and reopening?

(I'm actually having problems with #2 and #3, but thought I would keep this topic isolated to one problem at a time if possible)

Thank you :)
