Didn't realise you could control rules on form open events so that was much appreciated.

Re: Web service generated GUID

Where did you place the rule? It should be in the Form Open rules, and you should most likely be checking If GUIDcopy is not blank you should similarly use rules to stop it from querying a new quid when there already is one.

Web service generated GUID

Hi,

I have a GUID field (GUIDfield) on my form that, when the form is first opened, will head to the web service and generate a GUID.

I have got another field on the form that has a rule set up to copy GUIDfield and holds the original GUID (GUIDcopy).

When the form is saved, for example, in a Sharepoint library, and then reopened, the GUID in the field GUIDfield changes as it goes off to the webservice and fetches a new GUID, meanwhile GUIDcopy keeps that first GUID that was fetched.

I need to figure out some sort of way to stop GUIDfield going off and getting a new GUID everytime the form is opened, either by holding it's original value or by creating some sort of action that makes it look for a field in GUIDcopy first. If there is a value in GUIDcopy, it populates itself with the value held in GUIDcopy, if GUIDcopy is empty it goes off and fetches it's GUID from the web service as normal.

This is being done on a browser enabled form.

I initially thought, some sort of Rule with the condition "If GUIDcopy is present", then the rule obviously being Set a Fields value, Field = GUIDfield, Value = GUIDcopy, but this doesn't seem to work. Not sure whether the rule's don't kick in till after the web service has kicked in the new GUID or whether I was using the wrong condition.

Basically the aim is that once GUIDfield has a value, whenever that form is opened in the future, it retains that value and never changes it.

Any help on this is much appreciated, if indeed, any of the above makes sense.
