I have wrote a custom web service that takes in paramaters and uses the SharePoint Object model with a CAML query to get back the data I want. The web service works great and returns exactly what I want from the SharePoint list. In my InfoPath form I created a recieve data connection to the web service. I have a rule that will set the paramaters of the web service to the data in a specific field and then requery the web service in order to set another field to the results of the web service.... I'm doing a similar thing with the built in web service GetUserProfile by name and that works and also with some other custom web services that query a SQL data base based on form values and they seem to work fine but the web service for the SharePoint list will not work I get error accessing data connection. Also I have all the data connections using UDC files in the Central Admin data connection library.

Does anyone know Is this not possible to query /requery a SharePoint list with a custom web service? Does it only work with the built in SharePoint web services in the _vti_bin/. Can I or should I put my web service in the _vti_bin of SharePoint?

Also users do have the correct permissions to read the list so I don't think its a permission problem and the Web service is on the same server as SharePoint so I don't think it is a double hop problem. Should I run the web service with elevated privleges even though the current user would have permissions to read the list?
