I didn't expect the form to save the data, just receive and submit the data from the SQL Server DB. Since I needed to get this rolling, what I ended up doing was pushing a little more of the work on to the user than I had initially wanted to. The form filters to a subset of data based on the user's role, then the user chooses from a drop down the specific record they want to update. They update the fields then have the option to either save the information for later (which submits to the database, but a field indicates it is not complete) or the option to mark complete and submit. The marking complete of the field then further filters the data available in the dropdown, so that once they are completed with all entry there is no longer any records to choose.

I understand what you are getting at with the repeating section, but in this case that section may have to repeat 15-20 times, each section including quite a few text/memo fields with possibly a paragraph or two of text. I think my solution, while imperfect, will be less overwhelming for my users than displaying all the information at one time. I still am hoping to find a way that involves using a button to forward through the records in lieu of forcing the user to choose from the drop down list each time, but at this point I am at least functional.

Thanks,

Maranda

Re: Button to proceed to the next record

Interesting question. I think I understand what you want, present one view of a current record, allow the user to fill it in and submit, then display the next record until all records are complete? (and this could possibly happen out order)

It is possible, using secondary data sources, and lots of web services data connections and rules..... Although I question your platitude that a repeating section 'looks too busy'. A form is how you want to develop and display it hence a repeating section/table isn't necessarily your foe. You could write code to drive the form, you can do whatever you want to accept the input you require.

Is what you want is a form that doesn't save any data, although it accepts data and sends that to the SQL DB and then accepts the next set of data until all have been complete?

Button to proceed to the next record

Hello,

Not sure if this should go here or in to the "Newbie" question forum, but here goes nothing.

I have a form that will require that users complete about 15 fields for somewhere between 3 and 20 records based on a filtered subset of a table in SQL. I do not want to use a repeating section because I think it looks too busy, instead I have a bit field in the table that marks the input of the data for that record as complete. I want to use a button on the form to submit the data to the table and forward to the next record in the subset that is not marked as complete. Once a record is marked complete, it should fall out of rotation. I've been searching but can't find the code to use to make this work. If the records in the subset are all marked complete I'd like a message box to pop up that says "All record entry is complete".

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Maranda
