A better way for this is to use web services to query your SharePoint or database. A web service can evaluate the search term and return data that matches the entry in your form.

You might want to check out DBXL (Database Accelerator), it comes with a set of web services that will interact with your database and SharePoint without writing code.

You can download a free trial here.

SharePoint to/from SQL 2005

Hello all, new here. (thank-you for taking the time to look at this).

Fairly to new to InfoPath/SharePoint, but experienced at SQL.

This whole process is being created because we need to be able to create ad hoc reports on the data entered in these forms.

I have an InfoPath form template I have designed that via a SQL/SOAP EndPoint/Stored Procedure populates a SQL table from a form. The next step is to be able to retrieve/edit/update the data via an InfoPath form.

From what I have found in researching this, it appears it may be more difficult than I expected. The form I have created has a 'control section' and a 'detail section'. Both sections use two related tables and the insert/relation is handled by my stored procedure. I have added an additional 'search' section on the form that is hidden when 'insert is true' . I would like to be able to add additional detail records to an existing form. So I need to be able to search for items form the control (ID, created by, etc.) or detail (description). Then add/update records based on choices. I realize now (too late) that this is a lot harder than it looks.

Can anyone point me in the direction of resources for what I need to do.

Version(s): InfoPath 2007, SQL 2005, WSS 3 SharePoint

Thanks
