I can show you some examples of how this can be done and what you need to do it.

I think I can show you how this can be done a lot simpler and easier using web services. It removes all of the complexity out of the form so you only require a very small amount of code in the form.

Send me an email and I can show you.

Re: Data of InfoPath form in workflow to be sent to SQL

Hi Clay,

I saw your post and am hoping you can help me out. I am trying to accomplish something I thought would be simple, but is not turning out that way;

I want a user to be able to fill out an InfoPath form (service request) and for the following things to happen when the submit button is pressed:

1. A request number to be assigned which is visible to the user

2. The request to be logged to a SQL database

3. A workflow to be initiated

I have created an InfoPath form and web service. When the form loads a VSTA procedure handles the FormEvents_Loading event which runs a query is run which gets the next sequential number and displays it on the form (I gave up on the idea of assigning the number on submit). There my troubles start, the ID field is bound to the query datasource and I can't seem to find a way to transfer the value to the submit data source, so the data posted to SQL (this part works great) the ID column is null. The second problem is that when the form is submitted, it is not also saved into the form library, so a second operation is required to save it, and a name has to be provided. So, I have two questions:

1. How can I transfer the sequence number from the query to the submitted dataset

2. How can I get the submit to also save the form, using the sequence number as the "Name"?

By the way, the form is intended to run in the browser, not the infopath client.

Thanks for any help,

Bob

Re: Data of InfoPath form in workflow to be sent to SQL

Hi Ketty.

Welcomw to the forum.

This is my key focus, workflow and SQL integration via InfoPath.

Email me and I can show you some of the best practices I have learned and the common pitfalls.

Data of InfoPath form in workflow to be sent to SQL

Hi

My application deals with Infopath forms with and without workflow.
I need to push data of infopath forms to SQl DB. For infopath forms I am doing it using a custom webservice being called at forms submit event, I need to know what is the best way to capture data from infopath forms associated to workflow...

Also what is best known working solution for this kinda requirement. My forms do have repeating sections, meaning parent child relation in DB. And we have more the 100 forms of medium to complex nature.

Best practise with respect to Performance, scalability, customization and easy of configuration?

1) custom code for parsing and DML execution.

2) biztalk

3) SSIS

Thanks
