I was getting a dataset from an SQL query in Access. Whenever the returned column value was null, the node simply did not exist in the record. I got around this by bodging the query to add "" to any columns that might be null. This always returned a node, even if null. I had to do something similar to force the type of a node in a dataset to be Decimal when the value was zero - add (1.1-1.1) to the value in the query. (I was building a form based on a webservice data connection so it was the only way to 'fix' the node type).<br />Clive Glover

Re: NULL Values in dataset

I had problem the other day, maybe it is related. In this case, I removed an element from the XML I was returning from my web service to my InfoPath form. When I did that, the field was still on the form but it became completely disabled. Taking a guess, since you are having a problem with returning null, maybe no blank XML node is being returned. To test, inspect the XML that is being returned from your web service by debugging in Visual Studio. Run the web method and see if the node is missing when you expect the value to be null.

NULL Values in dataset

I am having a very difficult time trying to handle null values returned in a dataset from a web service.
