How to avoid saving fields which are used as variables

Hi,

I am running some very complex customized forms.

I realized I am using many (in some cases most) of the fields as software variables for manipulating the form (e.g. dynamic links, temporary storage,...).

Now, every field is represented in the end by a Sharepoint column, meaning that my lists are overpacked with meaningless columns and data, which I suspect makes them slow to load.

Is there a way around this? Can I mark a field as 'Temporary' or 'Not a sharepoint column'?
