Thanks for the quick response. Yes this is SP list form. Yes I am only looking to add a single entry on the list #2 (parts list) if it doesn't exist while users are adding/editing the order entry view. I'll play around with this approach and see how I can integrate this.

Re: Trying to let user add a new record in a lookup type

Oh, what an interesting idea - and are these SharePoint List forms you are talking about?

I honestly think you may be able to do this with a CAML query - since you're only talking about adding one entry. This InfoPath team blog post outlines the general technique.

I'm just new to InfoPath so please bear with me.

I have 3 sharepoint lists (1: categories, 2: parts, 3: order list)

Inside the form for parts list I have a cascading dropdown of categories and parts. They are related by categories.Id = parts:categoryId. The actual problem now is to let the users add an entry to parts list without leaving the add/edit order list form. After adding a new entry an alert/email will be sent to the parts administrator. If any of you guys have a chance to take a look at this that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
