Easiest way is to install the Qdabra's free database accelerator trial (DBXL) that we created back in 2004 to address this issue. It lets you quickly create a mapping between XML and SQL without writing any code and it contains a host of other features to fill gaps between InfoPath and SQL. There's still no other easy alternative to quickly map existing forms to SQL. You could use BCS in MOSS 2010 but it's more work to create the mappings and there are numerous issues (for example, can't easily change database or XML and update, mapping to deep table structures is also a lot of work).

You could hire a developer to create your own Web service, but you'd spend more money, the mapping wouldn't be data-driven, and it wouldn't work for all of your templates. That's one of the nice things about DBXL - it works for all templates. It also improves SharePoint submit times and supports server-side filtering for faster query to populate dropdowns.

Looking on the bright side, at least you didn't start from a SQL connection. Then, you'd have a much more difficult migration path.

(Disclaimer: Qdabra has provided this free forum to the InfoPath online community since 2003. We don't make any money off of the forum, but we do sell a few tools at very reasonable prices. If you find value in this forum and you want to help support Qdabra while saving cost and time developing your solution, please consider trying out qRules or one of the other accelerators. Discounts are available if you like the free trial and want to send us a 2-3 sentence quote that we can use with your first name on our website. There are hundreds of happy qRules users and we will be releasing new functionality in v2.3 soon. Your purchase today enables you to free upgrades.)

Submitting to SharePoint Form Libraries & SQL

I have an InfoPath form (2007) that currently submits to a SharePoint (MOSS or 2010) Form Library (promotes the form fields to SharePoint columns). I was looking to create an additional data connection that would be used when the form status is complete. For this data connection, I am looking to load all of the form data into a Access or SQL database. I'm having a difficult time - does anyone know how this is done?
