You might have to artificially increase the version number of the "old" form template (in the archive library) in order to force the old documents to "upgrade" to it.

Re: Using different templates for older versions of infopath template

Hi Ernesto,
It was set to update automatically, unfortunately the harm has already been done. I think I'm going to create an archive library and move the older forms into this then relink them. Would that work? I only need it for auditing purposes really. I was planning on uploading the old version to the new document library and then moving the files over through windows explorer

Re: Using different templates for older versions of infopath template

Just curious: in your InfoPath form (in design mode) can you check Tools > Form Options > Versioning? I was recently asked to add and remove some fields from a form in infopath. As I wanted to keep the older version of the form shcema valid I added additional fields and just removed the fields from the layout in the presentation layer rather than removing them from the datasource.

When I published the form I was told that they needed to be able to see the prior template for versions prior to my update.

I had thought that infopath forms retained the earlier template file via the version listed here in the xml documents uploaded to the library:

infoPathSolution solutionVersion="1.0.0.41"

To my surprise the library pushed the new version for all infopath templates. I made a backup of the template on my local machine and was considering publishing the old version and the new version as content types. I have no idea how to do this and even whether this is a valid solution so any suggestions or heads ups on this would be much appreciated.

Can I link existing documents to content types in this library? Infopath versioning is a bit of a mystery to me.
