That works, but sure seems clughy.

Re: Submission to library and rules glitch

I'll change the rules to employ at submission. However, I don't think this will solve the problem due to the workflow. Here's why:

- The form rules appropriately cap the value of the field. The field totals from other fields and then follows rule to cap

- It's when the user opens a submitted form to edit that the problem occurs. The field totals from the other fields but doe not follow the rule to cap.

Also, I'd like the user to see the cap prior to submission so they don't think they're getting 450 points when they'll really cap at 300.

try putting rules on submit button that will cap the values and then submit.

if it doesnt work upload the xsn and let us see what is going wrong

Submission to library and rules glitch

I have an internal SharePoint site where an InfoPath form is used as a template to create documents saved to a document library. The form has 3 sections where pulldown menus populate a field with a value. If you choose option 1, for example, the field is populated with the number 100, 200 for option 2, etc. Each of these 3 sections have several pulldown menus and a field which totals the fields for the section. So the whole thing looks something like this:

-- section 1 --

1. choose an option [option 1] 300

2. choose an option [option 4] 50

total for this section: 350

-- section 2 -- [You get the basic idea...]

The field that holds the total for the section also has a rule. This rule states that if the total of the fields is more than 300, then set the value of this total field to 300. The idea being that no matter what values get chosen in the section, the section total can never total more than 300. This form works fine before submission. When the form is submitted, the rule for the total in each section is ignored. When you open the form again, the total in each section shows what the actual total would be from each form and not the "capped" total the rule for the field would apply. How I can modify the form so that the totals in each section are capped at a maximum value?
