i'm not so practice with relational database and database in general...but i've understood that my biggest problem is that sharepoint isn't a database!

It hasn't foreign keys, transactions, stored procedures, ecc...

Re: Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

yesterday i was thinking about an easy solution for keeping a specified value from a sharepoint library field and show it as default on infopath form.

the idea consists before to use a sharepoint list filter that shows only the value i want...then open infopath form that take, as before, values from the sharepoint library list field, but in this case i hope only the value filtered before by me...

I've tried this solution but it doesn't work...i think because infopath form receive data from sp list without using sp filter...isn't it?

Any other idea?

I need that infopath form takes a specified value from a sp field (like "hello" title from titles field)

Re: Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

there is a problem:

i'm following the guide you give me, in a passage she says:

"Go to Tools > Form Options and select the "Save using custom code" checkbox"

I can't check that checkbox because it's not browser compatible...i need the infopath forms open with browser...what can i do?

Re: Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

thank you for the link.

However i've resolved the problem in another way.

My problem was that i wasn't able to save more than one infopath form with the same title, obviously, in sharepoint list.

So i created a rule that see if "title" on infopath form is the same "title" on sharepoint list. If it's the same it add a "Re:" string before the Title.

So if i've already saved a form named "hello" (that is i've sent an email with title=hello, because i use infopath to send email from sharepoint), the next infopath form that i open, if i write hello, it automatically call it "Re: hello" or something else if i want.

how can i create a "id" field in infopath (integer number) that increments itself every time a new form is saved?

i've searched for a similar function in "rules" but i haven't found anything.

Re: Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

Hi Patrick,

thank you for your answer! Now i'm going to download and try qdabra program...let see if it works!

Re: Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

If the ID isn't stored in InfoPath you will have to use input parameters or code to set a value in your form to correspond to it. qRules 1.8 supports input parameters without writing code. Free download from qdabra.com->Products but only works with 2007.

You could also add a uniquely generated value to your form and promote to SharePoint on save. Then do a ShP list connection on load and set the ShP ID value based on looking up the unique value.

Last, take a look at Clayton Cobb's SharePoint madness blog. He has an article on a similar approach.

Good luck!

Getting Infopath form auto-populate fields by Sharepoint list values

Hi,

i've a sharepoint list of items with an ID (number) for each item.

I'd like that when i open the infopathform ( i put a link button on the "modify selected item" page that open the infopath form) the form ID Field would be the same ID of the sharepoint item where i opened the form.

For example i've an item in Sharepoint list called "Hello" with ID "1000", i open the "visualize" menu of this item, and then i click on the button that opens the infopath form.
Can infopath take the values "Hello" and "1000" and put them automatically on the relative fields?

What i want is that every form that i open refers to a specified item with its fields (id, title, etc.) already compiled.

Is it possible to realize?

thank you
