In general, you could add a secondary data source to your SharePoint library to return the column where you are keeping these numbers, and get the max Id (use a substring-after formula to pull off the CR), add one, and stick the CR and the zeros back on. You should read this blog post by Clayton Cobb -- it may help you!

Auto Generate Form ID from a Sharepoint List on Submit

Hi All

I am new to infopath and have so far been able to create some basic forms that submit into a sharepoint library however I am currently working on a Change request process which uses an infopath form and a sharepoint forms library.

What I am trying to achieve is the following:

When a user submits a change request form, the form will generate a sequential CR Reference Number and populate a field in the form, then the form is added to the sharepoint library and saved with a filename that incorporates the generated CR Ref Number. Ideally I would want the generated reference numbers to run sequentially from and in the format of "CR0001".

Any help you you could give would be great as I am tearing my hair out at the moment.

Thanks in advance
