The contact picker recognises the distribution list, though I get an error as it cannot find the email address/user name once the name has been validated.

two things:

1. Can I supress the error message?

2. Assuming I manage to get the list of users in a particular list, I want to compare the current logon name to see if they are in the distribution and based on that decide which view that gets shon too the usre.

Re: Retrieving active directory information from Sharepoint

I guess the key is that you aren't touching Active Directory, but rather the profile database in SharePoint, and you have to use the UserProfileService (only in MOSS) to get the info you need. The Qdabra ADWS actually does connect directly to AD, so it's great for not having SP at all or not having MOSS. It also has some features that the UserProfileService doesn't have, but you should be able to solve your problem easily with the blogs I gave you. Alana's blog resolves your exact request in fine detail.

Re: Retrieving active directory information from Sharepoint

No, I have definitely not come accross either of them.

Searches were mainly active, directory, infopath. Don't take it personally, I spent most of the day trying to find it out. Most results resulted on instructions using Qdabra which we don't have at work.

I got the contact picker working, and the current user details, just not the two together.

Re: Retrieving active directory information from Sharepoint

It's definitely not basic, so don't worry abou tthat. However, I'm very surprised you searched and didn't find the two following blogs especially when I've already helped you a few times and when my blog on this topic is directly referenced at the top of Itay's blog that you referenced. The other blog is linked from my blog and links back to my blog. None of that showed up in search nor on Itay's blog when you read it?

InfoPath - Get user information without writing code (extended)

Use the Contact Selector in InfoPath to get user details – no code required

I'm curious to get feedback on why you didn't notice my blog reference on Itay's blog at the top so that we can try to make it more noticeable. I'm also curious as to what you used for search terms and which search engine you used, because my blogs get all sorts of hits from search engines with all sorts of crazy combinations of words - all of which I would assume you used to some degree or another. Lastly, I'd be curious as to how you hadn't noticed my blog so far in my signature when helping you. If you're working with InfoPath, asking for help, and I'm helping, then I think my blog is a pretty likely destination for you in the future. It's full of advanced SharePoint-integrated InfoPath information that is all without code, so you'd probably like it.

Retrieving active directory information from Sharepoint

I have followed this for getting the information for current users

http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/itaysk/archive/2007/04/05/InfoPath-_2D00_-Get-the-current-user-without-writing-code.aspx

I also have a contact picker working on the smae form. However I can't work out how to populate values held in AD (eg office, employee number etc) for any other than the current user. I want to select the name from the contact picker and then immediately see what office they belong to etc.

Yes this is still my first project, so pretty sure it is something very basic I am missing. I have tried searching the net but not found anything.
