This is a very common request. There are lots of posts on this topic. Search under "Auto number ID" and page through the results.

Some quick advice: in order to synchronize sequential numbering among all of your "submitters" you need to generate the ID on a central server. In other words, the forms need to synchronize to a central "id number counter". Kind of like systems that synchronize times - there has to be one central clock. Anyway, easiest thing to do is to use SharePoint or SQL as your ID generator. Not hard to do. There was a post just yesterday on how to do this with SharePoint. If you don't have SharePoint, I recommend using SQL and our Web service. If it's just e-mail, you will have to add some code that locks a file on a server, increments a counter in that file, and saves the file so that submitters can be "synchronized" using this file counter.

Hope this helps.

'Running Numbers'

hi,

i don't know this is related to more of infopath or sharepoint.

i would like to do 'running numbers'

example:

i got a field on a form thats says number.

this codes for 'running numbers' would be shown on the form what the current number is.

so if the last form was # 999

the next user that uses the form will have the input # 1000 shown automatically.

thus when the form is submited, a email would be notified to the approval(s).

on the email, the heading would be stated -> title(#) e.g request (#1000).

can anyone help me with this?

thanks in advance! :)
