I am actually having the same problem..

My problem seems to arrise once the form is used at least once. I then proceed to delete all the forms on the list (still in Dev Luckily) and try and change a field type from String to Date and re-publish the form using Administrator approval method. The process completes without error. However, the modified field type does not get promoted to the site list.

In order to resolve the issue I have had to:

Remove the content type from the list
De-Activate the content type from the list
Remove and re-create the list
Re-associate the data connection in the InfoPath form to the new list
Re-publish the new form to the farm
Re-Activate the content to the new list

After all these steps I now have the new content datatype associated to the list correctly.

Seems quite some truoble to simply change a data-type for a field. If there is another method, please let me know..

Hi, This is worked for me when I change the data type from String to date and I have republished the form. What I have done is.

Created one field with data type string and added in promoted list.
Published to share point and verified column type in share point.

It is displayed as “Single line of text”.

Now I have changed data type from string to date and time and published again.
Verified column type in share point

Now it is displaying as “Date and Time”. I have done this in share point 2007.

Issues after changing the InfoPath form field data type

Hi,

We have an Info Path form added as an content type in my share point site. After uploading it for the very first time, all the fields promoted along with the InfoPath form gets added to the site columns list. We have an info path column ExpirationDate of type Single Line Text (in the site columns list) which has been promoted along with the Info Path form. Later on in the InfoPath form I changed the data type of the ExpirationDate field from string to datetime and again uploaded the Info Path form to the site. After uploading it to the site, surprisingly the data type of the ExpirationDate field in the site columns list still shows "Single Line Text" instead of "Date and Time". When I changed the field data type in the InfoPath & then uploaded it to the site, my assumption was the share point will over ride the latest field datatype (promoted with InfoPath form) over the old one. But surprisingly that did not happen.

Is there any way in share point where the data type of the respective fields gets updated (in share point site columns list) when any data type changes are made to the InfoPath field?
