My first order of business at my new job at a new company was to setup a SharePoint site for our development group so that we could collaborate with our customers (internal). I created the site and gave everyone the appropriate permissions to the parent and various libraries. I created several InfoPath forms for meeting minutes, status reports, change requests, etc., each with their own library and views. When I published the forms to the libraries, I went into the "Versioning Settings" and checked "Yes" to require a document to be checked out before they can be edited. For certain users, this caused problems.

When some users tried to open the documents from the site, they would get an error that said:

InfoPath cannot open the following file: Status_20080725.xml
The file does not appear to be an InfoPath form.
[Details] The processing instruction in the file is missing or invalid.

If they checked out the document first, they were able to open it with no problem. I ended up having to change the versioning setting to "No", but I know I'm going to have problems going forward with someone needing to edit a document that someone else has open on their desktop and forgot about. Has anyone ever come across this before? I'm sure I can't be the only one.

BTW, I'm using Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 on a MOSS 2007 SharePoint site.

Thanks,
Jim Horvath

*** I'm withdrawing this question. The issue has been resolved. Form was developed using Microsoft Office 2003, SP2. Users experiencing issue were using Microsoft Office 2003, SP1.
