xpath = /Batch/Method/@Cmd;

With MOSS the solution is simpler because you can create SQL tables and databases, manipulate them with your infopath forms and then display that data using a variety of web parts in sharepoint and vice versus edit and update that data with other web parts or better yet with infopath web forms using Infopath services. Its these missing web parts like the Content Query Web part for example which allows you to build quasi SQL queries that have forced some of these more creative solutions.

If you are working with SharePoint 3.0 and trying to create more complex forms that actually update sharepoint lists, I suggest very strongly looking to an upgrade to MOSS as this will open many doors. Most of the limitations between Infopath and SharePoint are actually issues with sharepoint and not infopath.

I'm sure its not what you wanted to hear but I have been at this for the better part of six months and I can tell you I could have saved myself a solid 3 months if I had upgraded when people told me to.

Re: Regarding Updating Sharepoint Lists using Infopath Form

I'm having the same problem as well. Have you found any solution?

Re: Regarding Updating Sharepoint Lists using Infopath Form

Perhaps I'm getting the terminology mixed up here. When you are refering to the GUID it is the translated version (although I have tried every concievable translation including no translation at all). As an example my GUID is

%7B657B9627%2D7958%2D4491%2D90E4%2D71418A63CC3C%7D

Which translates to

{657B9627-7958-4491-90E4-71418A63CC3C}

This is definitly the correct GUID for site assuming the address that is expected is found in the MyContacts list I created and clicking on Settings as per the instructions of the article.

You use the term 'Specific Site Path for the List'. Is there some other meaning Im missing here in terms of identifying or pointing the form to the correct GUID?

I have gone through the process 3 times now, each time I use extreme caution to ensure I read the instructions to the letter. The result has been the same, Im able to get through the process completetly without any trouble. When I submit the form I get a confirmation with no errors that the form has been submited successfully, yet no update on the list site.

My educated guesses here are one of three things.

1. This article is using Infopath 2003 and there is some minor change that needs to be made in order to work with Infopath 2007 that we are missing here. After searching the various sites and blogs I have found that there is a considerable amount of people having this very issue.

2. There is a security issue here. Im not exactly sure how forms being submitted to the site have their security resolved, perhaps there is some step that needs to be taken here to ensure the site accepts the update to the list.

3. This only works with web based internet sharepoint sites and doesn't with intranet sites. Currently my sharepoint server is not visible on the web. This might explain the various posts of people having a similiar problem since its concievable to think most people like myself are in a testing phase and don't have their servers webbed yet.

Again thanks for all your help Clay, your a real asset to the Infopath community, regardless of the turn out with this technical problem Im learning an enormous amount about Infopath as I go here.

Regards,

Typically the most common issue is that the GUID for the list is not correct for the path. Make sure you are referencing the specific site path for the list.

There is an update and delete option for the CAML in addition to insert. I think there should be some examples

Regarding Updating Sharepoint Lists using Infopath Form

This question relates to the following article on updating sharepoint lists http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/matt/archive/2006/02/02/Add-SharePoint-List-Items-with-InfoPath.aspx

I have followed the instructions of this how to article exactly. Strangly enough everything works here, I even recieve a confirmation that my Form was updated. However the List is not updated.

The only cause that I can think of is that Im using Sharepoint 3.0 and Infopath 2007. I believe this article was originaly written for Infopath 2003 as the images don't coincide with my version of infopath.

However ultimatly this article still doesn't address my problem at large, while it appears to be the right direction what Im trying to do is not to create a new record in a list, but modify fields in existing records.

Im using a Projects List in sharepoint and within the projects list is a field called 'Call Log' which can be set to time stamp and update if your filling it out through sharepoint. What I want to do is for my Infopath form to access the appropriate project list record and update its call log. Hence not create a new project list record with a new call log, but an existing record with an existing call log.

Im certain this is a CAML based issue but Im just not sure how to go about doing it as I haven't really got this tutorial to work, again most likely because Im using a different version of Infopath then the one present in this article.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Regards

Chris
