Then go into the grouping section and select the field to group upon.

It would be under view settings, etc.

Re: Creating folders in document library using data from infopath form

This sounds interesting.
I have not seen the subfolder method really work well. Lots of people want to replicate a folder type layout in a Library but it does not work well because of trying to create and access the subfolders automaticallly.

I think it is better practice to just make a view that is grouped by a promoted property and collapsed by default. Then the user can navigate quickly and then expand the grouping which is pretty much the same concept.

Re: Creating folders in document library using data from infopath form

I tried that and it works great if I am only submitting to a specific library. But lets say the document library has subfolders and I want the user to specifically save it in one of those subfolders. Any ideas on how I could set that up?

Show a field which defaults to the standard name but that they can update.

Then that would be the field to use for the filename on submit.

Re: Creating folders in document library using data from infopath form

Also do you know of any way to prompt the user to save a form with a default name (drawn from the fields in the form) but still allowing the user to override that if he wants. kind of like how ms word prompts you with a default name when you want to save it. this is a web browser form. i have heard they have lower functionality.

You should try it out on a new blank test form to make sure it works and that you understand all the requirements. Then once you have it working there, add it to your production form.

Re: Creating folders in document library using data from infopath form

http://blog.henryong.com/2007/08/15/how-to-create-sharepoint-document-library-subfolders-programmatically/

I found the above link which seems like it could do the trick. Would inserting this line of code in the form code do the trick?

Basically this if for our R&D lab. Once an engineer fills a test request form the lab supervisor will decide to aprove or deny the test. I would like to set it up so that the lab supervisor can review the form and then click a button to automatically create a folder. the name of the folder and the other tags will be lifted of from the info the engineer provides. after that the technicians can fill the folder up with the lab data. obviously the supervisor could create the folder manually but i would like to automate this process.

Is this even possible?

Thanks
