1) Publish the form to a document library on your site, but as a "Content Type".

2) Edit your Form Library Setting, choose "Advanced Settings" and then select "yes" for "Allow management of content types".

3) In the Content Types section of the Form Library Setting, remove the "Form" content type.

4) Add a new content type from existing content types, and select your new "form" content type that you published as.

Easy as that. The next time someone presses new, they will open the form automatically. You can associate several different forms by adding more Content Types.

Re: Can new item button in SP launch InfoPath Form?

Thanks!

I ended up just putting JavaScript into the aspx page because I wanted to open two windows.

Re: Can new item button in SP launch InfoPath Form?

Creating a page with the HTML redirection should be easy to find. It has been a while since I did one but it is just a simple line of text for the syntax. Then you should be able to save it with an aspx file extension. The only trick is whether IIS will interpret it correctly since aspx usually have a lot more to them. But a simple trick that is worth a try.

Re: Can new item button in SP launch InfoPath Form?

Thanks! I know nothing about aspx but at least I have a direction to go in now. Thank goodness for the internet and Google. :)

Re: Can new item button in SP launch InfoPath Form?

I would think you could use redirection within IIS. Set the button to a aspx page which just does a redirect to the form URL you want.

Can new item button in SP launch InfoPath Form?

I've created my InfoPath form and I'm successfully submitting the information from the form to a customized list in SharePoint.

The one problem is someone can go directly to the SharePoint list and add a new item that way. Unfortunately, this avoids the error checking I'm doing in InfoPath. Does anyone know if I can change the way the "New Item" button works so that it lauches the InfoPath form instead. I've taken a look through SharePoint Designer and it appears that you should be able to do this. However, it'll only let me select a *.aspx form and not my fabulous new InfoPath form.

I'm going to keep looking for a solution but thought I'd also post here since it doesn't seem like it should be that difficult and thought someone might have a quick easy answer that'll save me hours of searching.

I'm using SharePoint 2007 and InfoPath 2003.

Thanks!
