A front end as a shell around sharepoint isn't an option. If it is not possible with infopath 2003 it's back to MS Word. And wait until our company upgrades our office suite. Still disapointing that it seems to be impossible with infopath 2003. Thanks for your advise.

Does anyone know a frontend that can do this job?

Does anyone know what we need to realize this? (Only Infopath 2007? also sharepoint 2007?)

Re: how to fill sharepoint column with infopath

I guess you are out of luck here. InfoPath 2003 does not integrate with Document Libraries out of the Box. I think 2007 does. In my opinion there are two options you have. Either you use custom code (managed code) to upload your files to the Document Library or you use the given functionality and upload the files to different Form Libraries and build some custom application around your SharePoint environement to query the different libraries using the WebServices coming with SharePoint. Here may be a few links: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms868615.aspx , http://weblogs.asp.net/jan/archive/2004/02/04/67218.aspx. One thing up front. I won't be toooo easy :). Hopefully someone can proove me wrong and there is some out of the box functionality existing for your requirements. Hope that helps at least a bit to get an idea.

Re: how to fill sharepoint column with infopath

I think I found where it's going wrong. When I publish the form to the FORM library it works! But when I publish it to a DOCUMENT library nothing happens. I have to put the filled form in the document library because our new policy is to use only one document library and filter out what you need. So filter on for example change id 363622 would show al the documents (Impact analyse - test results - application form) that belong to that change. One view should show all. Thats why I have to put the form in a document library.

Re: how to fill sharepoint column with infopath

hmm actually it should work. delete all columns again from your form library (you do not need to create them in sharepoint, the publishing wizard creates a new colum for every field you add at the end of the wizard). run the wizard again and select overwrite existing template/form library and try again. so after running the wizard you should see a new column named infopath in your sharpoint form library. now when you submit the form it should save it to the library and also write the value of your "infopath" named control into the corresponding column. does this work ?

Re: how to fill sharepoint column with infopath

@nukkumatti thanks for your reply.

I've put a textfield control (excuse me when names are different, I have a dutch version and have to translate) called "infopath" on the form. As default value I toke a string and put "testvalue" inside it.

In the library I also made a column named "infopath".

I then used the publication wizard. Let it make a new form library en attached the "infopath" column/fieldvalue.

In sharepoint I added the form library to the page. Filled in the new availabel form. Pressed the magic button and see...

The form shows up in the library as it should. But no value is filled in the "infopath" column. Where am I going wrong?

greetings F.Bosveld

The past months with document
libraries with maps.
Now we are going to use columns instead of maps and use filters more often.
The all our infopath forms have to carry several column values.
For example a change form has to show his change id and location.
We are using infopath 2003.

TIA
