If you do what you are saying and put a drop-down box within the form and then promote that field to the SharePoint list you should be able to know the status of each form.

However, this means that each person that fills the form out must update the status drop-down manually. That is, unless you can figure out some way to automate the process via code or rules. I think if you take a look at User Roles you might be able to automate it pretty reliably. I know we have done this in several projects that we've worked on.

Can I add Metadata to a form library element?

Hello,

I'm using an InfoPath form, that sends its data to a SharePoint form library.

This form represents a request, which, after being saved in SharePoint, has to processed by several people and due to that needs to have information about the current status attached to it - e.g. "New", "In work" and "Closed".

Is there any possibility to realize this feature using metadata, or do I have to add a Combobox (for example) into my InfoPath form, containing the three status options (and the status then be set via that)?
