Thanks to all for their consideration. As you were recomending it was most certainly an IT issue. When we finally got to the right people we were told there was new hardware placed on one of our national gateways that "filtered out IP forms." This was adjusted and voila; back in business. I'll admit, it got a little scary there for a minute!

tx

dave

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

Hi David,
Look at the permission set given to your users by firewall who are accessing the website , try out various permission sets. Like giving permission to the user to access the files behind the firewall etc..
Not sure how it will be done, its just an idea.

Agni
INFOPATHdev India

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

Right. We've got 5 IT admins on site but i guess no gurus. Sorry to have placed the question here as yes your business is cleary infopath and if I may say so, at the highest level. So even your clue to look into domain trust levels is well appreciated. We'll open up a ticket with MS and see what we can get but I suspect your thoughts about needing to solve this on site will be true. If that doesn't work I'll come back to you on your offer to work your connections with Microsoft. Oh well, we're just going to have to muscle it somehow. Thanks for your attention and i'll sign off on this one here but i'll let you know how it goes...

dave

David Rose

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

Hi David,
Thanks for using our forum! Sounds like domain trust issues, but it's really hard to tell. We can talk to the SharePoint gurus about this, but my feeling is that you shoud have your IT admins debug it. Our specialty is InfoPath, not network trust relationships. If your IT team can't solve the problem, I would suggest that we talk to one of our SharePoint network trust gurus at Microsoft. Let me know if you'd like us to do this, but they will likely say that you need to debug it from your end. This stuff does require an onsite IT admin and I'm assuming you have one of those people.
Regards.

Patrick Halstead [InfoPath MVP]
InfoPath Dev Seattle

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

Hi Agni,

Thank you for your reply. I will forward to our IT people.

I have tried the trusted site method you suggested without success or change. thank you.

It used to work just fine when accessing it from behind the firewall through our desktop IE.

When i say i am accessing it from within the network i only mean that i am on the internet from my desktop at work so i figure there must be some firewall thing it comes through. I can access IP forms from a third server that is set up on a host at another location than the two servers that are having problems and do so on my work computer no problem.

I am suspecting a subtle bug somewhere with MS but unfortunately it may be in IIS, SPS or SQL or IP... too many variables. Do you think you can figure it out if you have access? Perhaps a PO is in order here. this problem is sinking our project...!!!!!

David Rose

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

Hi David Rose,
Welcome to the Forum!
Your problem seems more like a Firewall(Security) issue rather than an InfoPath issue.
1. First thing that I would like you to try out is, add both the server URL's to your trusted sites.(Open IE->Tools->InternetOptions->Security->Trusted sites, add here).

2. When you say that you are accessing it from within the network are you trying with the machine address(I dont if it is different) or the URL that outside users access with. If it the URL that out side users access then probably your request is also being routed through the Firewall and Firewall might be restricting access.

3. Did it ever work when it is behind Firewall? or Did it stop working after using it for some days?

Agni
InfoPath Dev India

Re: error opening infopath documents on sharepoint

any takers? I'll admit it's a tough problem to solve. Here's a little more detail. Should I question SPS Sevice Pack 2 and it's interaction with our firewall?

When opening forms with full trust and certificates:

Form template:http://206.173.82.247/sites/cspCoordinatingCenter/subsiteTemplate1/Adverse%20Events/Forms/template.xsn

InfoPath cannot load this form. The signature is corrupt or the certificate used to sign this form is expired or has been revoked. Contact the author of the form.

When opening simple forms with minimal trust:

Form template:http://206.173.82.247/sites/cspCoordinatingCenter/ICH%206%20Protocol/Forms/template.xsn

This form library was either renamed or deleted, or network problems are preventing the file from being opened. If this problem persists, please contact your network administrator.

These same errors occur when trying to publish documents to new or old IP form libraries and occur when trying to open documents from the IP form libraries for editing.

Interestingly, we are able to work with IP form libraries from a 3rd server that is hosted outside of the .gov network that is at another location from the above two servers we are having trouble with (these two servers are at the same location).

David Rose

error opening infopath documents on sharepoint
Here's one. We had two servers running SPS with IP forms of various flavors working fine on both. Unfortunately we are accessing these servers from behind a government firewall. Recently we are unable to publish IP forms of any level (even blank ones) to either SErver, nor are we able to open any IP form of any complexity or security level from within our network. One of the errors we are getting (it depends it seems on the level of security of the form)is something about an expired certificate (not the case) and with less secure forms it's something about not able to identify a form library or form has been move, or some such (not the case). The latter one also occurs when we try to publish. Has anyone met this issue before or does anyone have any leads as to where we might look for what is causing this? There is a third server outside of the firewall that remains working just fine. Googling isn't helpful. It just keeps giving me links to infopath Dev so i thought I might as well ask here. Our IT denies any major setting changes on either of the two servers that are not working correctly.

tx

dave

David Rose
