I created two read only text boxes on the form for date and time, then I appended those fields to the title field in the SPS data connection properties. Another way I'm considering doing this is creating a web service (retrieval) and having that web service query the ID in the SharePoint form library, then incrementing that number by one on the form. I haven't figured out how I'd manage to check the edit status and only increment if new form, but I'll most likely look at using my rules to do this.
Thanks.

Re: duplicate fields in sharepoint library

I don't think that the blog entry is what you are looking for.

Greg Collins [InfoPath MVP]
InfoPath Dev

Re: duplicate fields in sharepoint library

Yes, it would!
I did come across this blog listing:-http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2005/06/17/430347.aspx, but I'm not sure this will work with an onsubmit?
Thanks.

Re: duplicate fields in sharepoint library

Hi. Happy dreams, right? Well, to the best of my knowledge there's nothing that will convert rules to code (though that would make an interesting tool, right?)

To the best of my knowledge (as far as I can recall) you must either use rules OR code to sumbit... both won't work. Please verify this from another source though before going through that long process! It has been a long time since I dealt with this particular issue.

Greg Collins [InfoPath MVP]
InfoPath Dev

Re: duplicate fields in sharepoint library

Thanks, I thought as much. Unfortunately, the form I'm working with has lots of rules applied and the onsubmit is by rules. Can I mix rules with code for the onsubmit or am I going to have to switch completely to code for onsubmit and code all the existing rules? Another question, is it possible to somehow generate the JScript from all the existing rules?
Thanks.

Re: duplicate fields in sharepoint library

You will need to write code to query the library for that particular title. Problem is if someone uses an existing title on a new form, then submits the form, the form will simply overwrite the other form already in the library. How can I best determine if a title has already been used and prompt the user to enter a different title?
thanks
