If it is the same list, I'd guess you need to first query for the list item you want (from within the form) and you could change your submit to use rules so that you could set the field prior to submitting. :-) Sorry I'm having so much trouble understanding.

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

This form would be for our locations to select their location - the customer number & the container number - when they hit submit button, I want it to find that record in the sharepoint site & update the field "TimeStamp" to show Username & Time & Date that the button was pressed.

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

Not really - I am trying to understand what you are wanting to achieve. If you just want to update any field for the list item you are currently editing, you can add a rule to do that prior to submitting - just add a rule to set the field's value. If you are actually needing to check all the other list items first for the same value and if none match, update the field in this item instead, you'd need to query the entire list.

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

Would that be the same as using a rule on submit & use the "run query" then "submit data"?

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

Ok. So if it is in the same list, you can add another data connection to query the list. You could probably set the query to not run when the form opens (this is a checkbox toward the end of the dialogs when you set up the data connection) and then set the query field to the value you wish to look for on your button click, followed by a rule to run the query. After that rule, you could add another rule with a condition that the number of items in the returned data fields (for this same data connection) are equal to zero, set the field you wish to update.... Hope that makes sense?

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

Sorry for my ignorance - 1st time working with infopath!

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

In the same list

Re: If 3 fields match lookup then add Timestamp to sharepoint list

So - you'd be updating an item in a different list?
