InfoPath rules only run when the form is used, of course, and if the user doesn't save the data, the list won't be updated. :)

Automatically update SharePoint column with InfoPath function result

Hi all - debut post! Really hoping someone can help.

I have a SharePoint 2013 list, with an associated InfoPath 2013 web form.

In this web form, some of the fields have a function embedded into them to lookup data from a separate list, which is also filtered.

This works fine in InfoPath, however it doesn't automatically write this value to the SharePoint column the field is based on when the external data (in the separate list) is changed.

So in other words, when the user opens the form the data is always correct and up-to-date as InfoPath is live-reading the data. However to reflect this in the SharePoint list, the item needs to be opened and saved.

Is there a way to automatically update the SharePoint list with the latest function results?

Thanks
