I have been out of the office for a while but I do not have the best news to report. Okay so I think this was a good step in the right direction for this form the departments are now being queried based on the list of values that are pull from my secondary source SP list, but more problems seem to keep appearing as time goes on...

I am getting the error "The form could not be displayed because default values or rules are taking too long to evaluate. To correct this, simplify the expressions or reduce the size of the data sets that they depend on." when I open the form after publishing. The number of items in the list are around 150 in total.

I also get an error when selecting the largest department query that the form needs (selecting 80 entries at a time). The error that I get when doing this in preview mode is:

"An error occurred in the form's rules or code. The number of rule actions or the number of calls to the OnAfterChange event for a single update in the data exceeded the maximum limit.

The rules or code may be causing an infinite loop. To prevent this, ensure that the rule action or event handler does not update the data which causes the same rule action or event handler to execute."

Questions

Is this too much for SharePoint to handle with a query?

Could it be a possible logic error with the setting of values using the ID?

Also each department can have any amount of different items being queried at a time is this a problem?

Any help that can be passed along would be greatly appreciated! :)

Re: Field reset after submit

Well. I have an idea for how to make this work tho ... I'll post later w/ another copy of your form. I think what I need to do is change the default for ID to only include items that either match on department or have the value of default as a department. Then you only have data that should be displayed in the form copied into the main DS. :)

Re: Field reset after submit

Does that mean I need to create another list with only the default options or just another data connection possibly with a filter of some kind?

Re: Field reset after submit

I would query for only the list items that matched on department, then have a second connection that only returned items where the department = default.... The desired outcome is to have each food item check a repeating field of departments associated with it and then compare that to the main department field on the form. If the fields match it will show an item if not it will hide it. The department field also can hold multiple values per department, as to say the departments at my work place have overlapping items and over 20 departments are unique with the options they have. There are also a group of items that are used in every department that I have given the value of "Default". The picture below shows the information as presented in the sharepoint list. I am not sure if the optional field you created will be able to what is required of this form. Is there a way to set a repeating fields data from the secondary data source similar to what you did with fields such as item, price, quantity, etc? I think it is necessary to have the department values for each item in the form.
