Thanks for the reply. After extensive trial and error, I think I've found the issue, but without a solution. The issue appears to be that I have created two content types for a sharepoint list. The only reason for creating the 2nd content types was so that I could attach an additional customised Infopath form to the list to do a different function. What I now can see is that if an item in the list is created in one content type, it is not visible in the main data source in a form which is attached to another content type. The behaviour of Infopath is interesting as it pulls the data from both content types in Infopath Preview, but not in the browser.

I may have gone around the problem the wrong way with using two content types. What I'm trying to achieve with a list is:
a) add new items with a custom infopath form
b) be able to edit a single item with the out of box sharepoint edit form (perhaps customisable later)
c) introduce a 'review and approve' customised infopath form which allows another user (determined by approver field in the list item) to review pairs of fields (before and current) and then state if they accept the change or not. This is the form that I attached to a second content type within the list, though sharing the same fields.

What is the best way of having a few forms work within the same list?

Regards,

Perhaps for some reason those are being evaluated differently in the browser. Another thing you could try while troubleshooting is to put the rule(s) that are on form load on a button in the form, see if you have different behavior when you click the button vs. form load.... let's see. If you are setting a query field in the main DS then running the query on form load, you may also want to try to put the query fields (temporarily) on your form w/ a button that executes the query, so you can also test that in the browser to help see what might be going wrong.... Oh! Just noticed the "user" bit - it could be that your site is using claims authentication, so the user name function in the browser is prepended with some extra stuff that you don't get in filler. So, put a calculated value on your form that has the userName() function for the value, so you can see what you need to strip off for the form to work in the browser (using a substring-after formula).

List form not querying Main data source in Sharepoint as it does in InfoPath preview

Hi,

I've created a InfoPath List form which will be associated with a content type in a SharePoint List. When I run the form in Preview in Infopath, it queries the Main Data Connection just fine via the Form Load rule. When I publish the form and open it, the query doesn't appear to work.

The purpose of the form is to look for any record where it is flagged as "Review Required" and a user field is the same as the user.
