Since you are using a SharePoint list form, it is indeed easy to update existing list items. In your Submit button, instead of the Submit action, set it to use the Update Form action (see screenshot).

May I know what method you are using in order to submit new list items from the form to your list so I can try to provide a more accurate solution based on your current set up?

Thanks,

Updating a list item which has just been pulled from a SharePoint list

A while back, I posted a thread (Re: I need
a form that automatically fills some fields and allows the user to input
others...) and was able to pull data from a SharePoint list based on the logged on user name. Now, I need for users to be able to enter and/or update data in that form and update the SharePoint list item. I was able to create a Submit button that writes back to the SP list, but it creates a new item rather than updating the existing entry.

Any ideas?
