Thank you so much for your help - You've been so helpful.

I created a rule on the button so that the fields value is actually changed prior to submission and now it all works, changing the values.

Many thanks for all your help.

Will certainly be investing in Qdabra rules - once my trial expires.

Thanks a lot, you're a great credit to Qdabra.

Here is what I believe the heart of your problem is - you are trying to update an existing item with providing qRules that item's ID. In a SharePoint list, each item has a unique ID. qRules offers a way to populate the XML with a newly created item's ID number. This allows qRules to update the item.

In your form, I think you are probably not saving the XML that is created by the form - you are just re-opening the template each time.

In your description of what you are doing, you are setting some fields when the laptop name is selected from the SharePoint list. Your SharePoint list data connection contains the ID field (by default - this is always selected as one of the fields when a data connection to a list is created). So when you select a laptop name and populate the laptop number and the status, you should also populate the ShPId field in your main data source with the ID from your SharePoint list data connection for the laptop. This will allow qRules to update the item.

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

Hello Hilary. I've done this. Please click on the link below. Showing the action and steps. It will show that an additional record has been created with the ShpID included, although the record has changed this time.

No, I haven't been leaving the form open

Hilary Stoupa:

If not, when you set your other field values after the laptop has been selected, are you setting the ShPId field with the ID from the laptop list? The ID field from the list is the key to updating instead of creating new - we have an ID field indicated in the mapping, and then the field in the XML indicated by that XPath need to have the ID of the item you are trying to update.

Sorry for asking to be spoon-fed here :), but can you give me the steps to achieve this as I don't want to get it wrong again and it would really help a lot if one could overcome what is missing here.

Can you try adding that field to your form so that your created items have a title? The error you are getting - Cannot access a closed Stream - is not one I have seen before. Another thought - there is a field in the QdabraRules data source, in the Form node, called extendedErrorMessages - can you put that field on your form and set it to true and see if we can get more error info from the form?

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

What I am trying to do is find out whether the issue has something to do with the data you are submitting via your form drop downs (since we don't know what the actual values there are) or with the command, or with something else. I do understand the purpose of the form. Sometimes, to troubleshoot issues, we have to simplify. I am trying to help you simplify.

If it were my form, and I were trying to troubleshoot this, I would drag the main data source onto the form again so that I could enter data in any of the fields. I'd submit a new item. I'd make sure the SharePoint Id field in the form, as specified in the /id parameter is successfully populated. I'd change some information in the form by typing in the fields, not by using the drop down controls. I'd try to submit again and see if my item was updated.

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

Final result after submission

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

3rd Action

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

Next Action

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

initial Config

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

Hello Hillary.

Hilary Stoupa:

Checking the SharePoint list shows a blank record with entitled "NEW", but no other records inserted accordingly.

This occurs if I just clicked on "Submit", with no added data. However, yes, If I create a record with data, the form does get submitted. But, the purpose of the
form is to edit existing data in a SharePoint list i.e. change the conditions of existing data.

Please have a look at my screenshots, in the following threads, it will explain them all

Re: Unable to Submit Info Path data to Form data to SharePoint List

So, I don't understand this:

Checking the SharePoint list shows a blank record with entitled "NEW", but no other records inserted accordingly.

What does that mean? Are none of your form values getting submitted to the list?

As to this:

Running the form a second time and then selecting the newly created ID so as to update it with new or even blank records generates the error message

I must not have explained well what I would like you to do - I don't want you to run the form a second time. I want you to open the form one time. Submit your list item. Leave the form open. Make sure in the form, in the ShPId field (or whatever you've used for your /id param) gets returned by the command - that is, make sure you have an ID number. Don't close the form. Change something in your form. Submit again and see if you have an error or an update.

However, it sounds as if you have another issue if you are just getting a blank record created - like your mapping may not be correct?
