You have to get symbols for the InfoPath Form Services and attach your debugger to the server process. Due to the difficulty, we have stopped doing this internally. In general, the best practice is not to write code in the form, but rather put the code in a Web service that can be more easily debugged. Sorry for the disappointing reply. I wish we had a better answer for you but sadly we don't.

Re: Debugging Infopath WebForms with Visual Studio 2008

Hi,

Infopath always launches VSTA (Visual Studio 2005) for Code editing tasks. That's probably why I always end up without any debugging information in my manifest.xsf (there should be some kind of reference to the .pdb file I believe). Anyway.. I can't go with Visual Studio 2005 because I don't have the "Attach to Process..." menu item - which is probably because I don't have a proper Visual Studio installation, just the very basic one that comes with SQL Server.

What's my best option here? Install a proper VS 2005 version? Or get completely rid of it and force infopath to use Visual Studio 2008 instead? (I'd prefer the later choice but I'm not sure if it's that easy to accomplish) Any insight?

tia

edit: Out of curiosity I tried uninstalling VS 2005... and miserably failed. It's not listed in the installed applications view anymore.. but that doesn't Infopath stop from still opening it without the tiniest complaint :-/

edit 2: Creating an Infopath Form Template within Visual Studio 2008 directly doesn't solve my problem either. I can attach but I never hit my breakpoints. Although this time the .xsn contains a properly formed manifest file and the .pdb file. What am I doing wrong here :? Design, Build, Publish to share, Upload to Forms Library, Activate to SiteCollection and use it.
I attach VS to all w3wp.exe processes and the breakpoints aren't filled, just outlined :-/
