Have you checked your SharePoint log file to get more information about the error? C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS is the default location on ShP 2007.

I'm trying to use a large SharePoint List with 5000+ items as data source to InfoPath 2007, but it throws an error

Is it because the list is too large for InfoPath? If I change the Default data connection timeout and Maximum data connection timeout values will it help in resolving this issue? The values are default, if i have to change it, what should be the maximum value. And is there any SharePoint Size limit to use against InfoPath forms?
