I added a translate function to the filter on the drop down, so that it doesn't matter what case the user enters text in. Hope this helps. To use the sample, right click the link in the header to this reply and save the template locally. Then right click the template and select Design to open in Design mode. Finally, preview the form. Initially, the drop down shows all items. But typing some text in the text box will filter those.

Can a user filter data from a data connection?

I am trying to create a form that generates a document using both data connections (existing data) and user inputted data (some inbedded into form controls and some manually entered by the user).

The problem i am having, is figuring out how to have the user filter out the data when they type in a letter or number.

I have a drop down list box with a data connection to a field in a database. Since the number of data items can be large, I would like the user to start typing in a letter or number and it will narrow down the displayed results or shorten the number of results according to what it starts with. For example, if the field is for last names, if a user was to start typing the letter 'A', all the last names that started with 'A' would be listed. Then if the user typed in the next letter 'D', all of the results that started with 'AD' would be sisplayed and so forth. I this doable? Am I going about it the right way? I am a beginner with Infopath. I have 2007 and 2010, but I am currently using 2010. Let me know if you need clarification or other questions.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
