I just took one of my XMLs and added the utf-8 as well as the other encoding tag that you had. I've seen issues like this before and they typically were caused by language settings on the machines where they are running. Check out the server and make sure it has the correct character sets and mapping files installed and that it is set to a reasonable locale, etc.

Regarding qRules and browser-based forms, InfoPath Form Services 2010 supports sandboxed forms on the server and that means qRules works well in those environments without the need to "admin deploy". However, since it's a library of common functions (and therefore code), it has to be admin deployed to work for MOSS 2007/IPFS 2007. Of course, if you are using rich client forms, you're fine since it runs on the client in those situations. What qRules features were you interested in?

Re: InfoPath Not Able to Open Data Connection with utf-8 XML file generated by InfoPath when published by InfoPath

Hi Patrick, did you use the attached utf-8 XML that Microsoft InfoPath Creates as a form? I am using InfoPath 2007 on Vista, sadly, we are upgrading to InfoPath 2010/Win 7 next year. Also, they both work in Preview Mode, and when editing the form the data connections show all the XML elements, only the Microsoft Generated utf-8 XML fails, but only fails on the server. Very Strange. Thanks, Brian. Question on qRules. Will qRules work on a server that does not allow code to run in InfoPath? We are locked down here and cannot run any code.

Re: InfoPath Not Able to Open Data Connection with utf-8 XML file generated by InfoPath when published by InfoPath

Both work for me. I took an XML file I had created and added the utf-8 encoding and saved (via notepad). Then, I double clicked and it opened fine. I did file->saveAs and called it fileB.xml. I examined this in notepad and the utf-8 encoding marker had roundtripped. Next, I added the encoding="ISO-8859-1" and did the same - no problem. I'm using InfoPath 2010 rich client and my Windows system language is English. What versions are you using?

Re: InfoPath Not Able to Open Data Connection with utf-8 XML file generated by InfoPath when published by InfoPath

simple xml file attached

Re: InfoPath Not Able to Open Data Connection with utf-8 XML file generated by InfoPath when published by InfoPath

Simple XML file attached that works.

InfoPath Not Able to Open Data Connection with utf-8 XML file generated by InfoPath when published by InfoPath

I can create a data connection to the attached file and pull up all the associated fields in the XML Data File and assign them to controls. When I preview the form it works flawlessly. When I check the infopath form on the server it generates no errors. When I publish the form and open it I get an error. The error must be the data connection to this form because after I delete it the error goes away. An ISO-8859-1 XML form that I made in notepad and saved to the server is able to function correctly when previewed and on the server. This is very puzzling because the XML form I am trying to connect to is generated by Microsoft and the connection works in the preview mode. I will attach the simple XML form to a second post. Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.
