My plan was I would just keep installing free software and updates from the Microsoft site until something else needed the VSTA plugin and installed it for me. I'm not sure if I need all of these steps, but what I installed was:

IE8

Silverlight

then went to update.microsoft.com and had it install everything it wanted.

and then VSTA worked InfoPath was visible in the Add or Remove Programs control panel.

Now to replicate this on another tablet ...

Re: WIN Infopath 2007 needs Tools

Yes the VSTA tools in IP 2007 are not installed by default in all cases so the workaround is to go back to Add/Remove and have them installed from there. As far as I know you are going to have to get the original install material from your IT department to get this done.

My IT dept installed Infopath 2007 with a pre-packaged installer that did not install the full Infopath with VSTA. They can't offer me a full install anytime soon (if ever), and I really need Infopath to work with SQL and some managed code. If this was your problem, how would you "upgrade" the minimal Infopath install to the full version? There doesn't seem to be a Microsoft solution except to reinstall with the full version. I also can't see the Infopath application in the list of Add/Remove Items control panel, which might be related. Thanks for your help.
