Yeah in my research yesterday I came to the same conclusion. It's unfortunate but what can you do.

Thanks for the response.

Re: SP Permissions

Hi Sven,

We have been in touch with Microsoft and apparently this is an expected feature. I'm told Infopath tries to check out/in the form as it submits it and in order to do this the relevent permissions must be available to the user (so full site Edit in our case).

Microsoft could only make two recommendations. One to give Edit permissions to the users (which is obviously something we were trying to avoid) or install a "post SP2 Office 2003 hotfix". I do not have any more details on the hotfix they recommend I'm afraid. We can't try that here because they would want to perform weeks of testing on the hotfix before it is applied to the estate and we don't have the time or funding to do that on this small project so I have had to give people edit permissions until this has been done.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

We moved the form into a sub site where it shouldn't matter too much that the user has edit privileges and perform a kind of digital audit when we parse each of the documents on a daily basis to make sure users haven't been editing the form when they shouldn't have.

Re: SP Permissions

I'm having the same problem. Was any solution found?

Re: SP Permissions

The error that appears in the details is as follows:

InfoPath cannot submit the form.

An error occurred while the form was being submitted.

The form cannot be submitted to the following location: <<form location>>

The site may be offline, read-only, or otherwise unavailable.

Unspecified error

As it happens, the form has submitted successfully but the system just isn't aware of it.

I have tried to put in a submit button to get around this problem so that I could customise the responses but it will not work. My actions are "Submit using a data connection", "Show dialog box message" and "Close form: No Prompt" but because the submit doesn't think it has completed properly, the rules don't process beyond the first one so it just replicates the functionality of a normal submit button.

SP Permissions

Hi everybody,

I'm having a problem submitting Infopath forms. For some reason, an error arises if a user only has insert privileges. The submit data connection only pushes the form to a single SP 2003 Form Library with a small number of library columns.

As it happens, if the user has insert privileges, the form actually submits perfectly, but an error appears saying that it hasn't.

If the user is granted edit privileges on the list, they get a message stating that the form submission was successful. Unfortunately, this is not something that we want to give to the users for a few reasons (including the appalling level of granularity of security provided by the portal that we've built the list in - where users get edit privileges over the entire area).

Does anyone know is this is a mistake that I have made with the design of the form? Or is this a "feature"? If anyone has managed to fix this problem in the past I would be very appreciative to learn how.

Thanks,

Ben
