The issue is that the data conenctions are hard coded and there is no way to change them dynamically.

There may be something in code that could be done instead of in data connections.

You could create a translation table in SQL or SP for the map of what the locations are for each type but still is going to be an administrative mess.

What about having list in a central location and then just filtering them for the particular group you need. So connect to the master source but filter the data by the customer or whatever.

You definetly could use SQL data and then dynamically query with a web service so that each group only got there data but just one form could serve all of them. This would be a much better architecture and much more manageable.

Send me an email if you would like to discuss.

Re: realtive Data-Connections to Sharepoint-Lists

thanx for your answer, clay.

do you think it is possible with UDC files?

or another possible solution would be an extra SQL database, instead of the sharepoint lists. it should be no problem to access the SQL database with c#?

the current customer i can get like in http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2006/11/08/submitting-to-this-document-library.aspx and so connect to the right table/id etc.

=> what do you think?

You would probably need multiple form templates, modified for each customer.

realtive Data-Connections to Sharepoint-Lists

Hi

i'm new to infopath and searched the www for hours to find a solution for my *challange*. But i'm still not really sure how to handle this case:

There are several sharepoint customer sites for IT-Documantation.
=> like http://sharepoint/website/customer/itdocumentation/

Each customer has its own application-list, backup-list etc...
=> like http://sharepoint/website/CUSTOMER2000/itdocumentation/applications

Now a document-library with infopath-forms was created
=> like http://sharepoint/website/CUSTOMER2000/itdocumentation/itdocs

The data-connections of these forms should access the application-list of the same customer:
=> http://sharepoint/website/CUSTOMER2000/itdocumentation/itdocs/ should access http://sharepoint/website/CUSTOMER2000/itdocumentation/applications

So the challenge is to set the dataconnections to the right path (customer changes) when the form is loaded or maybe just relative like "../applications".
The form should also work in the browser.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

MOSS 2007, Infopath 2007, C#
