The best practice is to use web services to communicate between your InfoPath form and SQL. That was how it was designed. As you have seen, the default, basic database conectivity in InfoPath has some limitations.

If you want, send me an email and I could show you some examples.

Three Tables

Hi, I am new Infopath 2007 fan, but I found a problem that is hard to solve for me. I have a SQL 2005 database with three tables: Student, Contact and StudentContact. StudentContact is the one that is used for the relationship between student and contact. One student can have many contacts. I want to have an Infopath form which can be used to search contacts related with students. When related contacts are found, the user should be able to update information related with that contact. Information from a Student won´t be updated. My idea was to use multiple master and detail controls, so the user first search for a particular student, show the results in a master control, then after selecting one of them, get the contacts related with that student and show them in a detail control. After hours of playing, I got and error message saying that I cannot bind a detail control to a master because of context problem. Is this functionality possible with InfoPath 2007? Is there any other way to solve this scenario? Thanks in advance for your help
